    Map tools

    Zoom in/Zoom out

The Zoom in and Zoom out buttons allow you to enlarge or decrease the view of a model within the Map View. This automatically changes the viewing scale of the Map View.

    Pan

The Pan button changes the cursor into a Pan icon , allowing you to reposition in the Map View. The tool doesn’t move the model, just the view pane.

    Coordinates

The current coordinates of the cursor are shown in the bottom left corner of the Map View.

    Scale

The current scale of the Map View is displayed at the bottom right corner of the Map View, the drop down menu available from the right of the scale (as shown below) allows you to choose a predefined scale.

    Show Window List

The Show Window List shows a list of available windows within the project.

    Select

The Select button changes the cursor display into a selection tool , which you can use to select elements within the Map View.

    Measure

The Measure button  allows you to measure distances between chosen points. It opens a new window where the measurements are shown. Each left click within the Map View creates a point, and the distances between them are displayed in the new window. A double click finishes and closes the measuring mode.

    Information Tool

The Information tool  opens new window. Once an object within the Map View is selected, information about this object will be displayed in the Information Tool window.

    Right-click menu functionality

The right-click menu provides the following options:

    • Selection Mode - allows you to choose between '1D River Network' and '1D Urban Network' selection modes. You must be on '1D River Network' selection mode to select nodes in an active 1D river network. Similarly, you must be on '1D Urban Network' selection mode to select nodes or links in an active 1D urban network.

    • 1D Node Properties – clicking on this opens up the data entry window for the selected node in the Map View.

    • Move Nodes – clicking on this option allows you to move a node (or nodes) for the active model in the Map View. Double click or draw a rectangle to highlight the desired nodes, then drag to a new location. Pressing the CTRL key allows you to move multiple nodes. Selecting this option a second time or selecting the pan, zoom or select functions will turn off move nodes.

    • Delete Nodes – clicking on this option will delete the currently selected node(s).

    • Pan – As described above, this option changes the cursor into a Pan icon, allowing you to re-position the Map View. The tool doesn’t move the model, just the view pane.

    • Zoom in/Zoom out – As described above, the Zoom In / Zoom Out options allow you to enlarge or decrease the view of a model within the Map View. This automatically changes the viewing scale of the Map View.

    • Zoom To Full Extent – This option is often used to undo any zooming. It fits all loaded objects into the Map View screen.

    • Go to Selected Nodes – this option allows you to zoom in to the nodes selected in the Map View.

    • Remove Selection – this option clears the selection of nodes that are highlighted in the Map View.

    • Save Snapshot – this option allows you to save a ‘snapshot’ of your Map View as a PNG (image) file, which can be used externally to Flood Modeller. This image will also be georeferenced so it can be used as a background layer in other Flood Modeller projects or in other GIS software.

    • Show/Hide Map Control Bars – this option allows you to turn on/off the control bar at the top left corner of the Map View.

    • Time Series – if in 1D river selection mode, this option opens the river time series selection window to then view a river time series plot. If in 1D urban selection mode, this option opens the urban time series selection window to then view an urban time series plot.

    • Long Section – if in 1D river selection mode, this option opens the river long section selection window to then view a river long section plot. If in 1D urban selection mode, this option opens the urban long section plot window.

    • Cross Section – this option is only available in 1D river selection mode. It opens the cross section selection window to then view a cross section plot

    • XY Series – if in 1D river selection mode, this option opens the river XY series selection window to then view a river XY series plot. If in 1D urban selection mode, this option opens the urban XY series selection window to then view an urban XY series plot.

    • Map Properties – if this option is selected, a new window will be displayed as shown in the figure below. This contains the editable Map View properties that are independent of all loaded layers. After settings have been defined, click the Apply button to implement the changes. Note that changes will apply to the next new shapefile created / edited in the viewport (current files may not display changes).
