1D River Networks

A 1D simulation always requires a network to represent the 1D components. When modelling a river, a 1D river network describes the system itself. This consists of multiple 1D units, or nodes, to provide the physical properties of the river.
A single river network can be used in multiple simulations.
Flood Modeller provides functionality to Create a new river network ready to start adding your nodes.
You can also Load a river network into the interface, assuming your licence is sufficient for the network size.
Alongside the option to Save a river network,you can copy your network in two ways.
To work on a loaded river network, ensure you have Selection Mode set to 1D River.
How to set the Selection Mode
Selection Mode is displayed at all times at the bottom of the map view. When building and editing 1D river networks, you must be in 1D River selection mode. Right-click anywhere on the Map view to access a menu allowing you to adjust the selection mode.
Selection mode can also be turned on and off using the toggle provided on the 1D Urban Build tab.
If you encounter any issues, you may find the 1D river network back-up file is useful. This will be created for each Flood Modeller session.
More about the 1D river network back-up file
Every time a 1D river network is loaded into your project Flood Modeller will create a back-up of your network data. This is effectively a copy of your network file (dat file) saved as a text file with the same name as your network file, but with extension ‘.feb’. This back-up file is placed in the same folder location as the associated network.
If you subsequently encounter a problem in Flood Modeller or with your system in general that leads to your network file becoming corrupted you have the option to returning to the version with which you started your Flood Modeller session. Equally if you make changes to your network but then decide you want to discard these, the back-up file gives you the option of returning to the earlier version of your network.
Flood Modeller allows you to refresh your back-up file mid-session with the latest version of your network. This is done by double-clicking on your network file reference in the Flood Modeller project panel. This effectively reloads your network, creates a revised ‘.feb’ file and resets the network as the active network in the interface.
It should be noted that saving your 1D network will not refresh the associated back-up file. This can be only done by reloading the network (either by double-clicking on the network or by unloading and reloading).
If you encounter a problem with your network file DO NOT try reloading into the Flood Modeller interface (or into the previous ISIS interface) before browsing to your network folder and moving the associated back-up file. If you fail to do this then any attempted reload will overwrite the existing back-up file with the unwanted network, thus making any data recovery impossible.
After moving your network feb file out of the network folder you can rename it, changing the extension back to ‘.dat’ (this must be done manually in your browser window). It is then ready to be loaded back into Flood Modeller interface. Note if you have defined specific georeferenced positions for your model nodes then you will also need to take a copy of your network gxy file, place it with your back-up network and ensure both files share the same filename.
There is currently no provision in Flood Modeller to automatically create back-up files for your 1D urban networks, or 2D modelling files.
