    Project Functionality

    Open Project

Clicking on this button allows you to load an existing modelling project into the Flood Modeller interface. A new window will appear asking you to browse to the location of your project. Note that project files must be saved as either *.fmpx (Flood Modeller project) or *.xdmh (MAPPER project) files. Once loaded, all data associated to your project will appear in the Layers window on the left hand side of the user interface (e.g. GIS shapefiles)

    New

Clicking on this button allows you to create a new, blank Flood Modeller project. Make sure you have saved what you have been working on – once you have clicked the ‘New’ button any data currently loaded into the user interface will be removed. The ‘New’ button allows you to start a new modelling project from scratch.

    Save

Clicking on this button allows you to save your project using the current filename and location that has been specified. If you are working on a new project (which has not been previously saved), then clicking on this button will open a browser window prompting you to specify a location and name for your project. Note that Flood Modeller projects are always saved as *.fmpx filetypes.

    Save As

Clicking on this button allows you to save your project under a new name, or to specify a different location for saving. Clicking the button will open a browser window prompting you to specify a location and name. Note that Flood Modeller projects are always saved as *.fmpx filetypes.

    1D River Network Functionality

    Load River Network

Clicking on this button allows you to load a 1D river network into your Flood Modeller interface. This requires the network to be saved as a *.DAT file. Clicking the button will open a browser window prompting you to select the filename that you wish to load. Once loaded, the 1D river network will show in the Projects window on the left hand side of the Flood Modeller interface.

    New

Clicking on this button allows you to create a new, blank 1D river network. You will be prompted to first specify a location and filename for your river network.

    Save

Clicking on this button allows you to save your 1D river network using the filename and location that has already been specified. If you are working on a new river network (which has not been previously saved), then clicking on this button will open a browser window prompting you to specify a location and name for your project. Note that 1D river networks are always saved as *.DAT files.

    Save As

Clicking on this button allows you to save your 1D river network under a new name or in a different location. Clicking the button will open a browser window prompting you to specify the location and name. Note that 1D river networks are always saved as *.DAT files.

    1D Urban Network Functionality

    Load Urban Network

Clicking on this button allows you to load a 1D urban network into your Flood Modeller interface. This requires the network to be saved as a *.INP file. Clicking the button will open a browser window prompting you to select the filename that you wish to load. Once loaded, the 1D urban network will show in the Projects window on the left hand side of the Flood Modeller interface.

    New

Clicking on this button allows you to create a new, blank 1D urban network. You will be prompted to first specify a location and filename for your urban network.

    Save

Clicking on this button allows you to save your 1D urban network using the filename and location that has already been specified. Note that 1D urban networks are always saved as *.INP files.

    Save As

Clicking on this button allows you to save your 1D urban network under a new name or in a different location. Clicking the button will open a browser window prompting you to specify the location and name. Note that 1D urban networks are always saved as *.INP files.

    GIS Data Functionality

    Add GIS Data

Clicking on this button allows you to add spatial (GIS) data to your project. Clicking this button will open a new browser window prompting you to select the data you want to load. Highlight the required file and then press Open. The selected layer will appear in the Layers window of the Flood Modeller window. Depending on the file type and file size this may take a number of seconds. The new layer will be added to the currently selected group in the Layers window. The Layers window can contain multiple groups to aid the organisation of data within a project.

Useful tip: Selecting several files to load all at the same time. It is possible to select multiple files of different types and then load them in a single operation. Note you may require to change the order of files listed in the Layers window after they have loaded (in order to obtain the required display).

    New > Shapefile

Clicking on this button allows you to create a new shapefile in your Flood Modeller project. A new window will appear prompting you to select the shapefile type that you wish to create. You will also be required to specify a name and location for saving the new shapefile.

    New > WMS Layer

Clicking on this button allows you to add a WMS Layer manually via url for your modelling project. A new window will appear asking you to select either a previously linked WMS server, or add a new one. This function allows you to link to web mapping servers (providers of GIS data online) to enable you to add background maps to the viewport to enhance your map views. Please see the mapping functionality section below for an alternative method to add WMS layers to your map.

    Map tools Functionality

    Zoom In

Clicking on this button allows you to zoom further in on your map view by a factor of 2. A magnifying glass icon will replace the mouse cursor in your viewport, allowing you to easily zoom in on your modelling project at your desired location by simply clicking on the screen.

    Zoom Out

Clicking on this button allows you to zoom out of your map view by a factor of 2. A magnifying glass icon will replace the mouse cursor in your viewport, allowing you to easily zoom out on your modelling project at your desired location by simply clicking on the screen.

    Pan

Clicking on this button allows you to pan through your map view by clicking and dragging in the viewport.

    Zoom Undo

Clicking on this button allows you to undo the zoom, i.e. revert to the previous extent.

    Zoom Redo

Clicking on this button allows you to redo the zoom, i.e. return to the most recent extent.

    Full Extent

Clicking on this button allows you to undo any zooming and return to the full extent view.

    Map viewing Functionality

These checkboxes allow you to adjust the icons/labels visible on the map view. This can be useful for de-cluttering, particularly when you have many layers loaded at one time.

    Settings Functionality

    1D River Options

Clicking on this button opens a new window allowing you to override certain 1D river settings (model or run-time defaults) with personal preferences which may differ from those automatically set by Flood Modeller.

    General

Clicking on this button allows the user to adjust general application settings, including model settings and video recording. A new window will appear showing Flood Modeller’s default settings; it is possible to specify different setting here.

    Layout

Clicking on this button allows you to customise your Flood Modeller layout by controlling what is visible to you on the interface. You can switch on and off what you see (windows, toolbars, etc) by selecting them from the drop down menu. You also have the option of saving your new layout (you may wish to use to it in another session) or reset to the default Flood Modeller layout.

    Link Styles

Clicking this button opens a pop-up window allowing you to specify the width, colour and stipple of lines within the graphical interface. Different options can be selected for general, lateral and spill lines within your project.

    Mapping Functionality

    Online services

Clicking this button allows you to select WMS to add to your map. The drop-down will show WMS layers added to your favourites.

    Base Map

Clicking this button allows you to select a background map to add to your project.
