    Select multiple nodes

    Article summary

In 1D modelling, the map view displays river network nodes and urban network nodes and links. Clicking on a node or link on the map view will highlight it. You can also select the node or link from the (1D river or 1D urban) Network panel on the right-hand-side.

There may be situations where you want to select multiple nodes/links. In this case, you can utilise the selection tool on the map, selection shortcuts via the network table, or a mix of both!

How to select multiple nodes/links using the map

You can select multiple nodes on the map using the selection tool. Draw a rectangle around the nodes you would like to select.

To select nodes using the irregular polygon selection tool, click the icon initially and then click on the map to start drawing. Each subsequent click will add extra points. The polygon will be displayed as a semi-transparent, yellow shape. To end drawing click with the Ctrl key depressed. The units within the polygon will be highlighted and the selection mode will be returned to the default mode (i.e. rectangle selection).

    Note
When selecting multiple urban nodes, any links connecting these will also be selected.

How to select multiple nodes/links using the network table

It is sometimes easier to select multiple nodes or links in your networks using the network table. Recall the 1D River Network tab is the first of the right-hand panel group. The 1D Urban Network tab is the third of the right-hand panel group, and is split further into Nodes and Links via tabs at the bottom.

Click nodes in the network table to select them. Various keyboard shortcuts that you might find helpful are:

    • Ctrl + A to select all
    • Click a first node. Hold Shift and click a second node to select the first node, second node, and all nodes in between
    • Click a first node. Hold Ctrl and click a second node to select the first node and second node, without all nodes in between

    More on selecting nodes/links

Click on a single unit either in the map or network table – the unit will become highlighted in both the map and network table.

    Note
When in 1D Urban selection mode and selecting a node on the map, both the node and a connected link will be selected (as the end of the link coincides with the node location). If you don’t want the link selected, then deselect it in the right-hand urban panel (Links tab). Clicking on the centre part of a link on the map will select only that link.

Click on additional units with the Ctrl or Shift keys depressed to select multiple units. Ctrl key adds single extra units to selection, Shift key adds a block of units (from previous click location to current; NB this only works from the Network Table). All selected units will be highlighted in both the map and network table.

Click on map and keep the mouse button depressed. Drag cursor across map. A rectangle will be generated, displayed with a dotted black line. When you release the mouse button all units within the rectangle will be selected (on the map and in the network table). Note that you need to have the standard cursor selected for this drag/select feature to work (it won’t work if you’re in zoom or pan mode).

Select by drawing an irregular polygon around the required units. Activate polygon selection by clicking the icon in the upper left corner of the map:

Left-click on the map to start drawing your selection polygon. Each subsequent click will add extra points. The polygon will be displayed as a semi-transparent, yellow shape. To end drawing click with the Ctrl key depressed. The units within the polygon will be highlighted and the selection mode will be returned to the default mode (i.e. rectangle selection).
