How to plot and customise a Time Series of 1D urban results

    Article Summary

    Note:
You will need to be on 1D Urban selection mode and have your urban network active to open an urban plot.

In the Results tab, click the Time Series button.

The Time Series Selection (Urban Results) window will open.

    Note:
This window can also be accessed by right-clicking on one of your selected nodes (in the map view or in the 1D Urban Network panel), then selecting Time Series from the menu.

Specify your plot settings as listed below.

    Select nodes

The Node/Item Selection tab will be shown by default. This list displays all nodes/links available for plotting from your active 1D urban network.

Tick the checkbox(es) of the nodes/links you would like to plot.

Three things to make this easier:

    • Select one or multiple nodes/links in your urban network before clicking the Time Series button and these will automatically populate the Selected Items list. You may find this page on Selecting multiple nodes helpful.
    • A Search Box is provided to easily locate nodes/link within the Node/Item Selection list.
    • All selected nodes/links are displayed in the Selected Nodes/Items tab. Switch between the viewing tabs by clicking on the tab names below the list.

Confirm results files (and/or linked flow output files!)

Your results file(s) will be displayed in a list. Use the checkboxes provided to select which results to plot.

Add more results files by clicking the Add 1D Urban Results File(s) button located below the list. You can browse to results files (extension .out) or a 1D-2D linked flow output from an integrated 1D-2D model (extension .csv).

    Note:
When a .csv file (the linked flow output from a 1D-2D model) is added to the results table, 2D Model (linked) Flow is added to the variables list and can be selected for plotting.

    Select variable(s)

A table lists all possible variables available for plotting. The default selections are the Node Depth and Link Flow variables. You can untick these and select different variables.

When plotting multiple variables, the upper variable selected in the list will be plotted on the primary y-axis. Subsequent variables will also be plotted on the primary axis if they have matching units. All other selected variables (with non-matching units) will be plotted against the secondary (right-hand) y-axis.

    Select the plot time range

Click in the fields provided and enter the required Start Time and End Time. The default is the full analysis period of the specified results file.

    Note:
The timings for urban results are always specified as real dates.

Click the Plot button in the Toolbar to display the time series graph. The plot will have a title and legend added automatically.

A cursor signified by the crossing of vertical and horizontal lines is always visible on the chart. The chart has an option to show data values under the (vertical line of) the cursor for all plotted datasets. This functionality is activated by a tick box in the chart toolbar. When this is ticked the data values will be visible on the chart. These data will update as you move the cursor around the chart.

Charts can be fully customised using the Quick-Edit button on the chart Toolbar. Please see the technical reference for details on Quick-Edit functionality, Toolbar functionality and Right-click menu functionality.

Use the X in the upper right corner of the chart to close the chart window when you’ve finished with it.
