    Network licence activation

    Article summary

Please note that network licences have been retired and replaced by more robust cloud licensing.

This guide should be followed to update or reconfigure your existing network licence.

For network licences, you will require a machine to act as the licence server. All user machines will be need to be configured to locate the licence(s) from the server. The server can be one of the user machines.

    On the server

    1. Install CodeMeter User Runtime for Windows. Please make sure that all the components are selected for installation. Otherwise, the client machines will not be able to access the licences.
    2. Open your unique activation link in a browser. If your server does not have internet access, please see the additional licensing details section below.
    3. Click the green Activate Licenses button
    4. Click the green Activate Selected Licenses Now button
    5. A pop-up will confirm the licence transfer has completed successfully. Click OK to close the pop-up.
    6. Open CodeMeter Control Center (from the System Tray or Windows Start Menu), and click on the WebAdmin button.
    7. A webpage will appear. Hover over the Configuration tab, then select Server.
    8. Make sure that in the Network Server field, the Enable radio button is selected.
    9. Keep a note of the port being used for the communications of CodeMeter Service. You may need to open this port on your network.

To increase the resilience of the service, it is also possible to improve network stability

If the server is one of the user machines, install the software (CodeMeter is included automatically) and then follow the instructions above.

    On the user machine(s)

This process must be carried out on each user machine.

This method is for manual deployment; for automatic deployment, please see the additional licensing details section below.

    1. Install the software (CodeMeter will be installed automatically)
    2. Open CodeMeter Control Center (from the System Tray or Windows Start Menu), and click on the WebAdmin button.
    3. A webpage will appear. Select the Configuration tab.
    4. Click on Add New Server. If you do not have the relevant rights to do this, please ask for assistance from your IT for the following steps.
    5. Enter the IP or alias (name) of the licence server.
    6. Click Add, then Apply.
    7. Repeat steps 4-6 as needed if multiple servers are used.
    Note
At this point your licence(s) should be available. Although unlikely, the CodeMeter service may need to be restarted. Most systems have limited rights to perform the restart of this service, in which case rebooting the machine is often easier.

    Automatic deployment

If multiple machines are going to use the software it may be useful to automate the addition of licence server(s) by either of the two ways below:

    1. From command line run:
      cmu32 --add-server 1.2.3.4
    2. Modify the registry key at
      HKLM\SOFTWARE\WIBU-SYSTEMS\CodeMeter\Server\CurrentVersion\ServerSearchList
Add a new key for each, e.g. Server1, Server2 etc. and within this add a new string value of Address and set this to the IP address of the server.

    No internet connection

For machines being utilised as servers that do not have direct internet access, an intermediate machine is used to exchange the necessary files with our licensing portal to activate and update the licence. No software is required to be installed on the intermediate machine.

If this option is required, you should open your unique activation link on the intermediate machine and select the File-based activation option from the bottom right of the portal's page. You will need to follow the on-screen instructions and be able to transfer files from that machine to the server and vice versa. There are three transfers needed. Please ensure you complete all three steps.

    Confirm your licence is recognised

On rare occasions, there is a fault and the licence is not recognised.

On the server, open CodeMeter Control Center and in the License tab, you should see at least one entry like the one shown here. If such an entry exists, please ensure that the status shown is License activated.

If such an entry does NOT exist or the status is other than License activated, please contact us.
