    3. Review Catchment Descriptors

    Article summary

The catchment descriptors associated to the Haw Bridge gauge station have automatically been loaded into the calculation point as version 1. We need to review these catchment descriptors prior to undertaking any analysis.

All catchment descriptors should be reviewed fully and checked wherever possible. In this case, we have compared the contributing area to topographic contours and determined the value provided of 9885.46 is accurate - we'll make a note of this so the information is not lost. We have also calculated that due to urban expansion, the URBEXT2000 value should be increased from 0.0347 to 0.0382. Changes made and all comments provided are saved as a new version of the catchment descriptors, so no previous data is lost.

The preferred version of the catchment descriptors will be used by default for the remainder of our analysis. We can change the preferred version at any time.

Review the catchment descriptors. Add a comment that the area has been checked against OS contours. Change URBEXT2000 to 0.0382 and provide a comment explaining why this modification has been made. Save the changes as a new version of the catchment descriptors.

    Read step-by-step guidance

To view the catchment descriptors within a calculation point, click on the Catchment descriptor tab.

    To edit catchment descriptors:

    1. Locate the parameter to be edited in the table. Edits can be made to the selected version, displayed on the right-hand-side.
    2. Click in the field and edit as needed.
    3. Add a comment to help document decisions made.

To save changes to the catchment descriptors, click the Save button in the bottom right corner. This will automatically create a new version of the catchment descriptors.

    Note
If comments are added to descriptors, but values remain unchanged, a new version will not be created.

Further details of this menu are provided in the technical references page for catchment descriptors.
