    Article Summary

Large .2dm files can take a long time to load, however these can be converted to .acsii files for easier handling using the .2dm to .ascii tool.

This application is included in the folder containing the Flood Modeller application and can be run through the command prompt window. Alternatively, the Flood Modeller toolbox provides an option to access this without the need to go through the command window.

To access the tool, click on the ‘Toolbox’ panel of Flood Modeller and navigate to:

Flood Mapping >> 2D Models >> Export 2DM to ASCII grid

A new window will pop up as follows:

The ‘Select 2dm File’ field will be automatically populated with all 2DM files currently loaded into Flood Modeller. Use the drop-down box to choose the 2DM file to export. Alternatively, use the browse button to locate the file via standard Windows file explorer.

A data file then needs to be selected from the list provided. Click on a data file to highlight it and this will populate the field to the right-hand side with the available timesteps for that output parameter (e.g. water level, depth). Note the final timestep(s) will be given as 9999 – this has been created by the program as a maximum timestep for the simulation but can also be selected and can be considered as the maximum values of the selected output parameter.

Multiple timesteps can be selected and an ASCII grid will be produced for each.

Click ‘OK’ to confirm your selection and the data will be converted to ASCII grid(s). These will automatically be loaded into the ‘Layers’ panel of Flood Modeller.

Click ‘Close’ at any time to close out of the tool without converting a 2DM file to ASCII format.
