    2D simulations

    Article summary

The 2D Simulation window has up to 4 tabs:

    • General Tab – In this tab you can enter general model information (optional) such as: Model name, Description, as well as setting a log file for the 2D simulation run.

    • Domains Tab – A Flood Modeller 2D model can be composed of one or more computational domains. By default a “Domain 1” is automatically created, but you can add more domains to be included in the same simulation file. When you define the elements of your 2D model, however, they must be associated to a particular domain. Each domain is composed of the following components:

    • River Links Subtab – only available if this checkbox is ticked on the General Tab ; defines details of connected 1D river networks

    • Urban Links Subtab – only available if this checkbox is ticked on the General Tab ; defines details of connected 1D urban networks

Within the 2D model Simulation window you can define multiple domains as part of the same project, i.e. effectively separate models within your modelling project. For each one of these you will then need to define the data as per the Domains Tab separately. All of the data associated to your domains will then be saved to the same 2D project file (XML file).

Furthermore, the 2D simulation interface has 3 buttons located in the lower left corner of the window. These can be used to Run, Save or Close the 2D simulation file. When you chose to Run your simulation, Flood Modeller will first check that all the necessary input files and parameters are correctly set within the 2D simulation window. If the simulation is not set up properly it will prompt you with a message and the simulation will not start.
