# Rating Curves

Rating curves (can be implemented via the [QRating unit](/v1/docs/rating-curve) in Flood Modeller) are necessary for the following reasons :

1. To simulate the hydraulic effects of control structures when the model is calculating flow splits at a junction.
2. To provide water levels at selected locations within discharge routing reaches.
