We want to perform WINFAP analysis to estimate peak river flows from observed flow records, again using our amended (version 2) catchment descriptors. Note, ReFH estimates flood hydrographs using a conceptual hydrological modelling approach, where as WINFAP estimates peak flows only using analysis of observed flow data.
We'll start a new WINFAP analysis. A link to access the WINFAP user manual is provided when WINFAP first starts, this provides detailed information on how to use the software.
WINFAP makes use of Peak Flow data published by UKCEH which can be downloaded here. The location of the Peak Flow data must be specified in the WINFAP software before analysis can be undertaken. On first start, WINFAP will prompt the user to specify the location of the Peak Flow data.
We select a pooled and QMED analysis at our site and confirm we are satisfied with the QMED value initially. Upon reviewing our pooling group, it is determined that the station 39002 (Thames @ Days Weir) is an outlier. We remove this site from the pooling group, and add station 76007 (Eden @ Sheepmount) to ensure we meet the criteria of 500 years of data within our pooling group. We add comments accordingly to record our processes.
We can explore the analyses and check the heterogeneity. We find our new pooling group is homogeneous and no further review is required.
We save our analysis and return to Flood Modeller, providing a name and description for our analysis.
User Steps. Initiate a WINFAP analysis from your catchment descriptors (v2). Generate a new pooling group. Remove the site 39002 (Thames @ Days Weir) from the pooling group and add the site 76007 (Eden @ Sheepmount). Confirm the pooling group is homogeneous. Save the analysis and return to Flood Modeller.
