Resample a grid to reduce resolution

    Article summary

    1. Load grid data

This operation enables the user to create a new, lower resolution grid from an existing grid loaded into the Flood Modeller viewport. This can be used with grid formats binary (flt) and ASCII (asc).

    2. Access resampling tool

This tool is accessed by going to Grid Tools > Resample Grid in the Toolbox. Once the Resample Grid option is accessed, the Resample Grid tool opens in a new window as shown below:

    3. Select input grid file

If the grid to resample is loaded in the TOC then select it from the drop-down list of available source grids provided in the new window. Alternatively click on the browse button to specify the name and the location of the external grid file to be used.

    4. Select output filename

Use the browse button in the output grid box to specify the name and the location of the new grid file to be created by the tool. Output format can be either binary (flt) or ASCII (asc) formats. In addition an option is provided for the tool to automatically load the new grid file into the Flood Modeller viewport when the calculation process is complete.

    5. Select resample setting

The tool displays the cell size of the selected input grid file and requires the user to enter a new cell size for the new grid to be generated by the tool. These values are specified in whatever units the source grid uses, i.e. usually metres. The entered value can be any positive real number (i.e. even cell size values lower than the original can be defined).

    6. Generate new grid

When all settings have been defined, click the OK button to run the resampling operation. Depending on the size and resolution of grids involved this process should take only a few seconds (a progress bar is displayed below the viewport).

When the operation is complete the tool will automatically close. To close the resampling tool without running any analysis, click the Close button.
