# How to plot, animate and customise a Long Section of 1D urban results

NoteYou will need to be on **1D Urban** selection mode and have your urban network active to open an urban plot.

In the **Results tab**, click the **Long Section** button.

The **Long Section (Urban Results)** window will open.

**Note:** This window can also be accessed by right-clicking on one of your selected nodes (in the **map** view or in the **1D Urban Network** panel), then selecting **Long Section** from the menu.

The window will automatically display a **Long Section** plot. You can make adjustments to all plot settings as listed below.

#### Confirm results files (or use none to view underlying elevations!)

The **Results** field displays results being plotted in the chart. If results for the simulation associated to the urban network are available, these will automatically populate this field. If no results are shown within this field, the chart will plot the underlying elevation data only.

Click the button to the right of the **Results** field to open a standard Windows file explorer window and browse to results (.out) files. When a new results file is selected, the **Results** field will be automatically updated.

#### Select nodes

A **Long Section** plot displays the shortest route between the specified **Start Node** and **End Node**. By default, these fields will be automatically filled based on selected nodes (in the **map** view or in the **1D Urban Network** panel), or the first and last node of your network if no nodes were selected when the plot was opened.

Click on the arrow to the right of the field to access a dropdown of all nodes in the network that are available for plotting, then select the required node. Click the **Plot** button below the fields to refresh the plot displayed.

A list in the bottom left corner of the window shows the links included in the route of the plot. This is especially helpful for more intricate systems where there may be several routes available between nodes.

Note: It is also possible to click in the **Start Node** (or **End Node**) field itself and type a node label. The value typed must match a node label exactly.

#### Select the plot time

By default, the **Long Section** plot will be shown at the **Elapsed Time** of 0 (the start of the simulation). This can be adjusted by dragging the scrollbars beneath the **Date** and/or **Time of Day** fields, or using the dropdowns provided to the right of each of the fields. Alternatively, arrows to the right of the **Elapsed Time** field allow you to step through each saved timestep of the data.

When you initially click the **Long Section** button (in **1D Urban** selection mode), the plot displayed will automatically be at the start time of the simulation. Your chart can be animated using the controls provided. From the left-hand-side, click these to **Rewind to Start**, **Play backwards**, **Pause** and **Play** the animation.The bar below the buttons controls the animation speed.

When you initially click the **Long Section** button (in **1D Urban** selection mode), the plot will have a title added automatically. The chart can be fully customised using the **Quick-Edit** button located on the chart **Toolbar**.
