# Edit the default projection

New projects will initially be assigned the map projection specified in General Settings. The default setting here is the British National Grid (OSGB 1936), but this can be changed.

Note: ‘Apply’ will apply the change whilst remaining in the Application Settings window. ‘OK’ will apply the change and then close out of the Application Settings window.
