How to compare data across multiple simulations

    Article Summary

The Simulation Grid enables quick comparison of user selected parameters for multiple simulations in a catalogue. The grid is located on an additional tab on the map view panel (i.e. same panel as main catalogue summary).

The simulation grid will initially display a set of default parameters. This section details how to customise the grid:

    1. Organising the columns

Right-click on grid header and select Column Chooser

A new window is displayed, allowing additional parameters to be highlighted and dragged into the Simulation Grid.

      Note:

Existing parameters in the grid can also be dragged out, back into the Column Chooser window if they are not required.

    2. Filter entries

If you right-click on any header within the results table, you can access tools to customise the displayed data. The available tools are as follows:

      • Sort the table using the selected column in ascending or descending order, e.g. to show the properties contributing most to overall damage totals. Note that simply clicking on a column header will also run the sort function (first click sorts in ascending order, second click re-sorts to descending order).

      • Group by selected column – grouping by a selected column converts the table to a tree view in which each branch contains rows with the same value for the selected column, e.g. group by simulation status to see all successful runs, as shown in the example below.

Branches can be expanded or collapsed either by clicking the triangle icon to the left of each group or by selecting new right-click menu options to expand/collapse all. Note that all groups will be collapsed initially.

You can group by multiple columns. Grouping extra columns will create a nested tree view.

The “Show Group By Box” command displays the selected column that defines the displayed groupings in a header above the table.

Selecting the right-click option on a column header to Ungroup will return the table back to its original format.

      • Filter editor – create expressions to define which rows in the table to display, e.g. only show simulations with mass balance error >1%.

After filtering your defined filters will be displayed below the Simulation Grid and the grid will only show rows matching the filter criteria.

    3. Save the layout and load the layout

    4. Export or copy to model log

The Simulation Grid allows multiple rows to be highlighted by clicking in combination with ether the Ctrl or Shift keys. Selections can then be exported to another application. Options on the right-click menu are:

      • Copy to clipboard – selected content can then be pasted to another application, e.g. MS Excel.

      • Export run log – selected content written to csv text file
