    Article summary

The 1D Water Quality Solver comes with a set of the example files. The example data in Flood Modeller can be saved to your machine directly from within the software. Click on the Start tab and then on Extract Example Data (from the options on the left). This will open a pop-up for you to select a save location for the data.

File exq1 represents a tidal river of approximate length 100km with a conservative pollutant inflow (as a SOURCE) partway down the system. After running the model, as described in the Preparing a Water Quality Datafile section, you may plot and animate long sections showing water level, conservative pollutant and BOD/DO. You should see the conservative pollutant being washed upstream and downstream. Dissolved oxygen and fast BOD are modelled from the upstream boundary and show dissolved oxygen sag being transported downstream.

File exq2 represents a much simpler fluvial channel of approximate length 80km with a conservative pollutant inflow at the top of the system. An animated long section will show the pollutant being transported downstream. You may wish to copy the exq2.dat and exq2.con files and use these as a base for an example model of your own.
