    Setting up a 1D river simulation - how to configure the Files tab

    Note: to follow this guide, a 1D river simulation must be loaded and active. You must therefore initially Start a new 1D river simulation or Load a 1D river simulation.

    In the Files tab of the 1D Simulation window, the river network and initial conditions data must be provided.

    The Network data must be provided. By default, the 1D Data File field will contain the active river network (if applicable). Click the icon containing 3 dots to the right of the field to open a standard Windows files explorer window and browse to the river network file to use in the simulation. This does not need to be loaded into Flood Modeller.

    The Initial conditions data also must be provided. By default, a new simulation will be set to use the initial conditions provided within the 1D river network specified in the field above. Note: these are the initial conditions shown in the lower half of the 1D River Network panel when the river network is loaded into Flood Modeller.

    Alternatively, you can use initial conditions defined in an initial conditions file. Select the radio button Initial Conditions File (.zzs/.iic)... and the field to the right will become active. Click the icon containing 3 dots to the right of the field to open a standard Windows files explorer window and browse to the initial conditions file to use in the simulation.

    Additional information provided in this window includes the following. These can all be left at their default values.

    Event Title - the name of the simulation by default. Click in the field to free type a new title as desired.

    Description - blank by default. Click in the field to free type a description as desired.

    Default File Path - blank by default, indicating results will be saved relative to the simulation file location. You are unlikely to want to adjust this.

    Results File - the name of the simulation by default. Click in the field to free type a new results filename as desired.

    Event Data can be optionally provided. This is a helpful and time-saving feature to define adjustments to your river network, representing different scenarios to be modelled. Event Data files could, for example, contain boundary units to be "replaced", provided in the same format as they appear in a river network file but with revised time series data specified. Further information on this can be found in the Using Event Data section.

    Flow-Time Series Data can be optionally provided. This feature enable you to provide inflow data via .csv format to override series within your boundary nodes. These can store multiple flow-time profiles for selection within your simulation, and this option is particularly helpful for FSU hydrological data. Further information on this can be found in the Using Flow-Time Series Data section.

    The Toolbar provides functionality to Save the details provided so far to the simulation file, and to Close the simulation window. You can also Run your simulation from here - recall you will want to also Configure the Times tab prior to running a simulation.
