Web Map Services (WMS) return the image of a map. Web Feature Services (WFS) can have attributes alongside geometry. Flood Modeller provides selected WMS and WFS layers as georeferenced map images to assist with visualisation of models. Alongside the option to add a WMS/WFS layer to a project, for layers you use frequently, you can also Add a WMS layer to your favourites for even easier access.
Note:
In the following guide and video, we refer to WMS layers only, however the same functionality applies for WFS layers.
To add a WMS layer to your Project:
- On the Home tab, within the Mapping section on the far right, click the Online Services icon. A new window will open.
- Navigate to the layer of interest. Note that you can right-click top-tier items to Expand All if you find this easier. A search box is also provided.
- Check the box of the layer to add. Checking the box of a higher-tier item will automatically check all items in tiers within this. Check the boxes of multiple layers if required.
- Click Add to add the layer(s) to your Project.
- Click Close to exit the Online Mapping Services window.
- The WMS layer will be added in the Layers panel and the Map view. Please note WMS layers only show in the Map view at appropriate zoom level resolutions.
- To stop visualising a WMS layer, in the Layers panel, uncheck the box to the left of the layer to hide it from the Map view.
- To remove a WMS layer from your Project altogether, right-click the layer and select Unload Layer. This right-click menu also provides functionality to adjust transparency via the Properties option.
- If using multiple layers, the order of the layers in the Layers panel determines the order of the layers in the Map view, e.g. the topmost layer in the Layers panel will be on top of all other layers in the Map view.
