# Cloud licence activation

## Server-Managed Cloud Licence

This is our recommended approach for medium-large organisations as this provides greater control over software access and user permissions.

This deployment requires a machine to act as the licence server. For enhanced resilience, licences can be distributed across multiple independent servers without the need to split or allocate portions of your licence pool to each server.

This provides built-in redundancy, ensuring that if one server becomes unavailable, users can continue to access the full licence entitlement through the remaining server(s), with no reduction in licence availability or disruption to service.

All user machines will be need to be configured to locate the licence(s) from the server(s). The server can be one of the user machines if necessary.

#### On the server

1. Install [CodeMeter User Runtime for Windows](https://www.wibu.com/uk/support/user/downloads-user-software.html). Please make sure that all the components are selected for installation. Otherwise, the client machines will not be able to access the licences.
2. Save the licence file (extension .wbc) to a location on the server.
3. Open CodeMeter Control Center (from the System Tray or the Windows Start Menu).
4. Drag and drop the licence file (extension .wbc) onto CodeMeter Control Center.
5. Once the container is installed, it appears in the list on the left hand-side of CodeMeter Control Center window. Confirm the URL is **https://wibu.cloud/74447** or **https://eu-backend.wibu.cloud/74447**and the status is **Connected.**
6. Within CodeMeter Control Center, click on the **WebAdmin** button.
7. A webpage will appear. Hover over the **Configuration** tab, then select **Server.**
8. Make sure that in the **Network Server** field, the **Enable** radio button is selected.
9. Keep a note of the port being used for the communications of CodeMeter Service. You may need to open this port on your network. If left with default settings, the CodeMeter installer takes care of ports exceptions.

#### On the user machine(s)

This process must be carried out on each user machine.

This method is for manual deployment; for automatic deployment, please see the [automatic deployment](/v1/docs/automatic-deployment) section.

1. [Install the software](/v1/docs/software-installation-1) (CodeMeter will be installed automatically)
2. Open Codemeter Control Center from the System Tray or the Windows Start Menu, and click on the **WebAdmin** button.
3. A webpage will appear. Select the **Configuration** tab.
4. Click on **Add New Server**. If you do not have the relevant rights to do this, please ask for assistance from your IT for the following steps.
5. Enter the IP or alias (name) of the licence server.
6. Click **Add**, then **Apply**.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 as needed if multiple servers are used.

NoteAt this point your licence(s) should be available. Although unlikely, the CodeMeter service may need to be restarted. Most systems have limited rights to perform the restart of this service, in which case rebooting the machine is often easier.

## Direct Cloud Licence

Our recommended deployment method is via a server, as this provides greater control over software access and user permissions. However, if preferred, you can bypass the company server entirely and connect user devices directly to our cloud-based licensing platform.

If you need to update these machines in the future, you can [move the cloud licence](/v1/docs/move-cloud-container) independently as and when required.

1. [Install the software](/v1/docs/software-installation-1) (CodeMeter will be installed automatically).
2. Save the cloud licence file (.wbc) to your computer.
3. Open **Codemeter Control Center** from the System Tray or the Windows Start Menu.
4. Drag the .wbc file from the saved location into the **License box** in CodeMeter Control Center.
