# Apply Licence Update File

In some cases, you will be asked to manually apply a licence update file. This file may also be referred to as 'rau' file, because of the file extension .**wibucmrau**.

1. Open CodeMeter Control Center from the System Tray or the Windows Start Menu.
2. From the pane on the left, select the container providing the licences.

3. Click on **License Update**. See above figure for guidance (green annotation).
4. In the new dialog window that appears, select **Import license update** and then **Next**.

5. Choose the container update file sent to you and click **Commit**.

6. You should receive a confirmation message that the update has been applied successfully.

## Application of the licence update failed

If in step 6 above, the message says there was an error, the most frequent reasons for this are the following:

- The update has been already applied. No further action needed.
- The licence update request file (extension .**wibucmrac**) you provided was outdated. [Please send us a new one](/v1/docs/create-a-container-context-file).
- The details in the licence update file do not match the container that you are trying to apply it to. Please confirm the WIBU ID.
