# 2D Boundaries

A 2D simulation requires boundary information to detail the flow entering / leaving the system.

Flood Modeller provides functionality to [Create a boundary line](/v1/docs/how-to-create-a-2d-model-boundary) to specify the location of boundaries.

When setting up the simulation, you will provide the location of the boundary and details of the flow data itself. Options are provided to [Add hydrological boundary data](/v1/docs/how-to-add-hydrological-boundary-data-to-a-2d-model) via a user-entered time series or a hydrology unit file.
