Getting Started

This section shows how to run 1D and 2D simulations and view results.

The guide uses example data that is packaged with Flood Modeller. To access the data, go to the Start tab and select the menu option (on the left-hand side) to “Extract example data”. Then specify the location you want to unpack these data to. Note you can unpack the example data multiple times to different specified locations (e.g. if you want to refresh the example files after using/editing them).

To run a 1D model you will use a predefined 1D model network and associated boundary conditions. The guide will show you how to create and run a new simulation and how to look at water level results.

To run a 2D model you will use predefined GIS datasets. The guide will show you how to incorporate these into a new simulation, how to run your simulation and how to look at an animation of flood levels in your modelled area.

Note, the example data are designed solely to demonstrate the Flood Modeller software – they are based on hypothetical or old data sets and should not be used in decision making.

For the convenience of experienced users, this help file contains two new pages. These pages provide a summary of the 1D units and commands available in Flood Modeller. They also explain where to find these units and commands in the interfaces of Flood Modeller and its predecessors. These help pages are aimed for those users, who need some guidance in the transition to the Flood Modeller Suite. The hyperlinks above will take you straight to these new pages.
